Mollau

Mollau is a commune with 406 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin region of Alsace. It belongs to the district Thann, in the canton of Saint -Amarin and is a member municipality of the Municipal Association Vallée de Saint -Amarin.

Geography

The 8.82 km ² comprehensive municipality of Mollau extends along the Rimbachrunz, a right tributary of the River Thur, over a portion of the transverse valley between Mollau and Storckensohn up to the ridge between the catchment areas of the rivers Thur and Doller. This ridge, which is transverse to the main axis of the Vosges, marks the southern boundary of the municipality area. History

Mollau is one of the oldest villages in the territory of Thurtales. She made 1212-1803 a Meiertum with communities Husseren, Storckensohn and Urbes and belonged to the abbey Murbach. 1216 is documented as the place Mulenowe (before mill).

In Mollau and around copper was mined until the end of the 19th century.
