Molly Hatchet

Molly Hatchet is an American southern rock band from Jacksonville ( Florida).

Name

The name of the band goes back to a prostitute named Molly Hatchet, who lived in the 17th century in the southern states and their suitors allegedly beheaded and mutilated.

History

The band was founded in 1975. It consisted of singer Danny Joe Brown, bassist Banner Thomas, drummer Bruce Crump and the three guitarists Dave Hlubek, Steve Holland, and Duane Roland. Molly Hatchet from the beginning were known for their hard, loud Southern sound. Their debut album from 1978 Molly Hatchet reached platinum status quickly. The subsequent panel Flirtin ' with Disaster was even more successful, selling over 2 million copies.

Danny Joe Brown left the group in 1980 because he suffered from diabetes and was leached from the permanent tours. He was replaced by Jimmy Farrar for the album Beatin ' the Odds, but the new voice did not fit the already well-known sound of the group. The result was a decline in commercial success. On the album Take No Prisoners, the band experimented with wind instruments, but Farrar left the band to start a solo career. There followed a period of constant line-up changes and a legal dispute about the naming rights to the band between singer Danny Joe Brown and guitarist Bobby Ingram, who had joined the band later and wanted to continue under the name.

The band released only in 1996, again new material on the plate Devils Canyon. Danny Joe Brown left the band for health reasons and died on 10 March 2005 of pneumonia. At that time not a single founding member more was going after Danny Joe Brown was replaced by singer Phil McCormick.

In mid-1998 the CD Silent Reign of Heroes, with the Molly Hatchet appeared despite a new singer to the existing tradition of the band was able to continue.
