Molon

Molon (Greek: Mόλων; † 220 BC ) was a usurper and king of Babylonia 222-220 BC

Molon was first satrap of Media; he climbed under the Seleucid king Antiochus III. 223 BC to the Governor General on the upper satrapies to manage the kingdom during the absence of Antiochus, who undertook a campaign against Egypt. After deduction of Antiochus revolted in 222 BC Molon and his brother Alexander, satrap of Persis was, in the hope Achaeus 'll participate in the waste, even contempt for the young ruler, and especially out of hatred for the Chancellor Hermeias as Polybius writes. Molon had himself proclaimed king and impressed in a hurry coins.

On the advice of Hermeias towards Antiochus dispatched the two generals xenon and Theodotus Hemiolios against Molon, who had now succeeded to draw the neighboring province governor on his side. Molon urged the generals of Antiochus back, occupied the Apolloniatis and involved in Ctesiphon 222/221 BC, his winter camp, so opposite to Seleucia on the Tigris. 221 BC destroyed Molon had equipped the army of Xenoitas, the Hermeias with extraordinary power, and conquered the territory from the Euphrates to Iran.

Then appeared in the late autumn of the same year the haste from Egypt coming Antiochus and struck 220 BC Molon, who turned the battle in view of the danger of being cut off from its base media. When the left wing to Antiochus overran and the courage broke out in his army, Molon committed suicide. His brother Neolaos escaped to Persis, where he met his mother, the children of Molon and killed himself; Alexander took his own life
