Molondin

Molondin is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Molondin is located on 611 m above sea level. M., 9 km east of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The scattered village extends into an open, through which the stream Flonzel trough east of the Valley of Mentue, Molassehügelland in the northern Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​5.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the hill country between Lake Neuchâtel and the Broyetal. The church floor is occupied by the valley of the Flonzel which forms at Molondin with a side stream, a wide shell. The valley to the west by ridges Derrière Loussot ( 652 m above sea level. M. ), bounded on the east by the high plateau of Démoret. On this plateau is located at 735 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Molondin. To Molondin include the hamlet Petit Basel (615 m above sea level. M. ) on Flonzel south of the village and Devant Saint -Martin- du- Chêne (620 m above sea level. M. ) and some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Molondin are Chêne- Pâquier, Démoret, Prahins, Donneloye, Yvonand, Rovray and Chavannes -le- Chêne.

Population

With 205 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Molondin one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 95.0% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.9 % and 0.6 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Molondin amounted in 1900 to 330 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1980 by around 50 % to 166 persons, a slight increase in population was registered again since then.

Economy

Molondin was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important role in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small businesses and in the service provided. The water power of the Flonzel was previously used by a mill and a sawmill. In recent decades, Molondin has also developed into a residential community. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who work mainly in Yverdon.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Donneloye and Yvonand accessible. The Postbus course, which runs from Yverdon Thierrens, operated at certain times of the day and the village Molondin.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1380 under the name of minor finishing and Mollondens. 1422 appeared the name Molondens 1437 Molandens. Even in 1867 partly the spelling Mollondin was used.

Since its first mention Molondin belonged to the rule of Saint -Martin- du- Chêne. This was a powerful rule, and its castle on the spur between the deep valleys of the Flonzel and the Ruisseau des Vaux stood on the field of Molondin in the Middle Ages. To the Castle of the small borough of Saint -Martin developed in the 13th century. The rule of Saint -Martin- du- Chêne 1360 was divided into two fiefs. The castle was occupied during the Burgundian Wars in 1475 by the Confederates and 1536 completely destroyed. As a result, the center of rule was transferred to Chavannes -le- Chêne, and also the stains Saint -Martin was left.

With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Molondin came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Yverdon.

Attractions

The originating from the 18th and 19th century farmhouses of Molondin all have a gable orientation of West southwest to east-northeast after. The Reformed Church was built in 1955. The only witness to the former rule Saint -Martin- du- Chêne is the tour de Saint -Martin. The mighty tower of the 12th century, was once the keep of the castle. In the vicinity of the tower some ruins are still visible.
