The Molopo is a Rivier (temporary water-bearing river ) in southern Africa.

River

The river has a length of approximately 960 kilometers. The source of the river lies between the South African Groot Marico places and Lichtenburg. From there it flows westwards approximate. In the middle reaches of the river is to a large extent, the border between South Africa and Botswana. Near the Augrabies Falls of the Molopo flows into the Orange River. The main tributary is the flowing from the north in the Nossob underflow. Other small tributaries are the Kuruman, the Phepane, the Ramatlabama, the Madebe, the Modimola and Setlagoli.

Catchment area and navigability

The catchment area covers approximately 367,201 km ², extending to the countries of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. The river flows very slowly due to the low gradient. According to the variable rainfall, the river in the lower reaches falls often dry.

Riverside Molopo is the town Mahikeng and the middle reaches of the Molopo place among others in the upper reaches.
