Moment of Glory

Occupation

Moment of Glory is an album by German hard rock band Scorpions in cooperation with the Berlin Philharmonic, one of the biggest classical orchestras in Germany. It appeared in 2000 and ranks as the 18th regular album in the discography of the band. For the album, a concert DVD, but which has a different selection appeared.

Background

The project Moment of Glory was initiated in 1995 by the Philharmonic who wanted to cooperate in search of new challenges with an experienced international rock band. The title track "Moment of Glory" is also the official anthem of the EXPO 2000 World Exhibition, which was held in Hanover, the home of the Scorpions. The lyrics of the song is in schlager typical formulations of change, evolution and a kind of childlike magic that emanates from new and at the same time inspires people and liberated.

The joint production of rock band and classical orchestra had the character of a project of this world exhibition. On 22 June 2000 took place in the Preussag Arena (now TUI Arena ) on the EXPO site a nearly two -hour concert of the Scorpions with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and several guest musicians instead, which was after the event on ZDF and as an advertising major event the three weeks earlier opened EXPO should act, which was still going on until 31 October 2000. The former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and many other celebrities were present as spectators. The television program was moderated by Desiree Nosbusch.

The dress rehearsal on 21 June 2000 previously had been a few days earlier declared a public event (although at similarly high prices as the sold-out, actual job ), and with about 10 000 spectators almost sold out. After the dress rehearsal, the audience was asked to stay as a backdrop for the reception of the official live video clips of two songs from the joint project in the hall. The actually published video clips to the singles of the album comes from that rehearsal.

Selection

The songs from the album and DVD is in the majority to Scorpions classics, partly also to assemblages more earlier Scorpions classics such as Deadly Sting in the suite. Some songs have been significantly expanded to include orchestral passages in part.

As already mentioned, the CD and the DVD partly contain different titles. The main out-coupled and were promoting songs, such as the spectacular version of Rock You Like a Hurricane or the newly composed for this project pieces Moment of Glory and Here in My Heart, however, are represented on CD and DVD alike. The newly composed song We Do not Own the World, however, was, however, only played at the concert and was therefore released on any official recordings, but is available on some versions of the download compilation "Taken B- Side" (2009) included. Other songs such as the "Deadly Sting Suite" but were interpreted differently or presented. So the song on the CD is entirely instrumental, while the concert version is mostly sung.

Criticism, sale and Awards
