Mona Lisa is an opera in two acts together with prelude and postlude by Max von Schillings. The libretto Beatrice Dovsky; It weaves together the history of the famous painting in a love triangle. The premiere took place on 26 September 1915 at the new Court Theatre in Stuttgart. Mona Lisa was largest to Schilling's success.

A newlywed couple - he much older than she - is on honeymoon in Florence. The two visit the former palace of Francesco del Giocondo, which is a monastery today. A lay brother to lead them. The rich pearl merchant Francesco del Giacondo receives numerous guests in his palace. It is Carnival and this event is to be celebrated today cheerful. The next morning Dianora, Francesco's daughter brings from his first marriage, her stepmother a key, which they discovered in their boat a few minutes ago. Suddenly, she is surprised by her husband and handed him - this time with her famous mysterious smile - the key out. Hardly has opened the second door Francesco, Mona Lisa throws the first to behind him. Now he is doomed to suffer the same death as her lover the day before.
