Monadnock

An island mountain is in geomorphology a single mountain or group of mountains, the island-like and suddenly rises from a flat shape. The German name is also established Inselsberg in the Anglo -Saxon world.

Differences are structural island mountains, the remnants of a formerly contiguous uplands are ( witness the mountain ), and shield island mountains that often arise in connection with polders. The Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro and the Uluru ( Ayers Rock) in the Australian outback are sign inselbergs ( rinsed until free, recalcitrant, bedrock ).

Not the island's mountains include freestanding volcanoes.

Vegetation

Due to its climate and soil conditions, inselbergs differ significantly from their surroundings. To water or nutrient deficiency adapted plants such as carnivorous sundew plants and water hose plants, or drought- resistant plants such as Afrotrilepis pilosa here find their habitat, water-storing leaf and stem succulent, South America often bromeliads. There are other, but also water plants in the temporary ponds.
