Monagas Sport Club
Monagas Sport Club, often abbreviated Monagas SC or simply el Monagas, is a Venezuelan football club from Maturin. He has been nicknamed Los del guerrero Guarapiche ( The Warrior from Guarapiche ) because of his combative style and location on the river Maturin Guarapiche. Monagas SC played at the Estadio Monumental de Maturin.
History
Monagas Sport Club was Joaquín ( Fariñas ) Da Silva, Ramón Ramírez and other men on September 23, formed in 1987. At the beginning of Monagas SC played friendly games against the teams ' Atlético Cumana "," Cachorros del Tigrito "," Mariscales de Sucre "and" Unión Deportivo de Puerto La Cruz ". His first official game was on May 22, 1988 against Unión Deportivo Puerto la Cruz.
The Monagas Sport Club played to 1990 in the second Venezuelan league. At the end of the season Monagas Sport Club rose to the first Venezuelan league.
Stadium
From 1987 to 2007 Monagas Sport Club played in the Alexander Bottini Stadium in Maturin. Since 2007, the Estadio Monumental is the seat of the football club.
Sponsor
La Lotería de Oriente (a public lottery from Maturin ) is the main sponsor of Monagas Sport Club. The President of the lottery is the same time President of the Association.
Description of the escutcheon, the shirts and the colors
The current colors of the Monagas Sport Club are blue and red. The game clothes and the club crest of Monagas Sport Club resemble the shirts and the coat of arms of the Spanish club FC Barcelona. The colors and the logo in 1988 at the suggestion of Francisco ( Paco ) Espinoza, the then Vice-President of the club selected.
Dispute about the colors and the crest
2006 suggested Ramón Caballero, the former president of the Association, and other members of the Board that the play clothes, the coat of arms and the name had to be changed. They justified the step with the similarity of the arms and the jerseys with those of FC Barcelona, which must not be. They also felt that the name of the club should be written in Spanish. Many fans of the Monagas Sport Club opposed this idea because they feared for the identity of the team.
Participations in the South American Cup
The Monagas Sport Club qualified for the South American Cup in 2002 and 2003. 2002 won Monagas Sport Club against Deportivo Táchira FC from Venezuela in the first round with 2-0 in San Cristóbal and 3-0 in Maturin. In the second round of the Club from Maturin from CA San Lorenzo de Almagro of Argentina 0-3 in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, was defeated and 1-5 in Buenos Aires.
2003 Monagas Sport Club Deportivo Italchacao from Caracas in Caracas was defeated in the first round of the South American Cup with 1-2 and 0-1 in Maturin.
