Monaghan

Province

Monaghan [ monəhan ], irish Monaghan [m ʲ ʷ in əxa ː ɴ ], is the capital of the County Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland. The name means "land of the little hills " and refers to the outskirts of Monaghan. The population is 6,637 ( 2011).

The city is located in the north of the Irish Republic, just ten kilometers from the border with Northern Ireland.

Attractions

The city center consists of four interconnected marketplaces, the church square, the " diamond " and the Old Cross Square. The Market located on the market square House was built in 1792 and is now an art gallery. The Country Museum features exhibits on the history and archeology and is very close. One of the most important buildings in the city is the St- Macartan's Cathedral with its magnificent rose window and bell tower. She's Episcopal Church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Clogher, which has its headquarters here.

Industry

There is a significant industry that produces wooden houses, and also furniture industry. Furthermore, here operate in the food industry are located.
