Monchy-Lagache
Monchy- Lagache ( Picard: Monchy- L'Agache ) is a commune with 675 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region of northern France. The municipality is part of the Canton of Ham, and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays Hamois.
Geography
The municipality is situated on both sides of the river Omignon, the center of Monchy on the left ( southern ) bank. On the north side are the community members ( hamlet ) Montécourt, Mereaucourt and La Cabourerie. In the south of the hamlet Flez and Douvieux belong to Monchy. The Autoroute A29 runs through the southern part of the township. In the north of the airfield Aerodrome de Peronne -St- Quentin is located partially on the territory of the municipality.
Etymology
The name suffix Lagache is derived from the term Gachar meaning " Guet " ( Night Watch ).
History
In the area of community five Gallo- Roman villas were located.
Monchy- Lagache was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914-1918.
