Moncton Hawks

The Moncton Hawks were a Canadian ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League from Moncton, New Brunswick. The venue for the Hawks was the Moncton Coliseum.

History

The Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League acquired in 1987 by the Boston Bruins the rights to their former farm team of the American Hockey League, the Boston Braves, who have been inactive since 1974, and moved the franchise to Moncton, New Brunswick, to where it was active under the name Moncton Hawks in the AHL. After the Hawks never were on their way in their first six seasons on the second playoff round, they reached in the 1993/94 season for the first and only time in franchise history the final of the Calder Cup in which they the Portland Pirates with 2:4 victories documents. After this season, the franchise was dissolved.

Before the Moncton Hawks already played the AHL clubs New Brunswick Hawks (1978-1982), Moncton Alpines (1982-1984) and Moncton Golden Flames (1984-1987) in Moncton. The gap left by the dissolution of the franchise in the city, was built by the Moncton Alpines (1995-1996) and the Moncton Wildcats filled (since 1996) Ligue de hockey junior from majeur du Québec.
