Mondine Garcia

Mondine Garcia ( * 1936 in Saint- Ouen (Seine- Saint- Denis ), † December 29, 2010 ) was a French jazz guitarist in the tradition of Django Reinhardt.

Life and work

Garcia was one of the gypsy jazz guitarist who formed the second generation of musicians who played in the tradition of Django Reinhardt. He belonged to the Kale - Garcia family of musicians, playing since the age of ten musette music; he is known in France as le roi de la valse ( king of the waltz ). Since 1960 he plays Gypsy jazz at the legendary Café aux Puces de Chope Saint-Ouen near Paris Porte de Clignancourt, first with the band Les Manouche ( with his cousin Niglo nobility as a rhythm guitarist and bassist and various violinists such Spatzo needle). Garcia was his regular Saturday performances at the Café as a model of many younger guitarists like Tchavolo Schmitt, Biréli Lagrène Stochelo Rosenberg and Romane. The late 1970s to the early 1980s he formed with his son Ninine a Gypsy Jazz / Bossa Nova duo called Les Manouches de St Ouen. Between 1962 and 1983 he made ​​several recordings have been issued as the LP Les Manouches, which appeared at Le Kiosk d' Orphée; 2007, these were partly as a CD Les Manouches: re-released Rare Recordings of Gypsy Music from 1969 to 1983.
