Mondovi is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) in Buffalo County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, Mondovi had 2777 inhabitants.

Geography

Mondovi is located on the Buffalo River, which flows about 36 km south-west to the Mississippi. This forms the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota. The geographic coordinates of Mondovi are 44 ° 34'8 " north latitude and 91 ° 40'11 " west longitude. The city covers an area of 9.7 km ², which consist almost exclusively of land area.

History

In 1855, the first white settlers arrived in the area. 1857 a small general store, a hotel and a saloon were opened. Also, a mill was built in the same year. A blacksmith came up and about 1858 a post office was opened. The first marriage in Mondovi was closed in 1858.

In 1859 there were in Mondovi several shops, two hotels, three churches, a school building, two mills and a newspaper. In a census in 1885 340 inhabitants were counted, which almost came originally from New England and other East Coast states.
