Moneygall

Moneygall (Irish Muine Gall ) is a town in the southern tip of County Offaly in the heart of Ireland. The county Offaly projects with its southern tip far in the county Tipperary in, and therefore the neighboring towns of Moneygall are mostly in Tipperary. The place is one of the most frequently occurring in Ireland road villages ( ir sráidbhaile ). In 2006 the city counted about 300 inhabitants.

Transport links and facilities

Moneygall is located on the old N7 (now R445 ) between Roscrea and Nenagh, however, there has recently via exit 23 has a direct connection to the new M7 motorway from Dublin to Limerick, which now relieves the place with regard to through traffic at the same time.

Through the village the main bus route runs from Limerick to Dublin (Bus Éireann route 12). The nearest train stations to Irish Rail ( Iarnród Éireann ) are located in Roscrea, Cloughjordan and Nenagh. The place has the usual facilities such as a Catholic church and a school, a few shops, a post office, a police station ( Garda Síochána ) as well as two pubs.

Personalities

Fulmuth Kearney was born in the 19th century in Moneygall son of a shoemaker and emigrated to the devastating famine ( Great Famine ) mid-century, as many other family members too, to North America. His great great great grandson is the current U.S. President Barack Obama. On 23 May 2011 a short visit of the U.S. President in Moneygall took place.
