Mongolian legislative election, 1990

The parliamentary elections in Mongolia in 1990 were the first elections in Mongolia after the introduction of a multiparty system.

As in the other countries of the socialist camp it was in 1989 also came in Mongolia to protests and the fall of the Unity Party. It was created a bicameral system: In addition to the Great State Khural - the Baga Khural was introduced as a second chamber. Was chosen in a majority voting system, which the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party as the only well-organized party, which prevented a fragmented opposition, zugutekam.

The first round of the parliamentary election took place for the Great State Khural - on 22 June 1990. The run-off elections were conducted jointly with the elections to the Baga Khural on June 29.

The Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party received 60 % of the vote, due to the majority suffrage 358 seats ( 86%). The election was marred by irregularities. 28 seats remained vacant because of irregularities. As a result of the election Punsalmaagiin Otschirbat was elected Speaker of the State Great - Churals and Daschiin Bjambasüren was appointed Prime Minister.
