Monible

Monible is a municipality in the administrative district in the canton of Bern Bernese Jura in Switzerland. Between the communities Châtelat, Monible, Sornetan and Souboz a fusion project has been initialized. As a new community name Petit -Val is specified.

Geography

Monible is located on 862 m above sea level. M., 13 km west of the town Moutier (air line). The farming village is situated on an isolated hill north of the upper forest-free Sorne, in a valley widening the Jura Mountains, which also bears the name of Petit Val.

The area of ​​3.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Petit Val both sides of the Sorne that drains the basin to the Birs. In this basin rises the 70 -meter-high hill of Monible. In the south, the area extends to the northern slope of the Jura chain of Moron (up to 1,010 m above sea level. M. ). Population

With 36 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Monible is the smallest canton of Bern community and one of the ten smallest municipalities of Switzerland. Of the 88.6% inhabitants are French-speaking and German-speaking 11.4 % (as of 2000). The population of Monible amounted in 1850 to 132 residents in 1900 to 72 inhabitants. History

The village was under until the end of the 18th century, the provost Moutier- Grandval. From 1797 to 1815 Monible belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont- Terrible, which was connected to the 1800 Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern to the district of Moutier.
