Monica Huggett

Monica Huggett ( born May 16, 1953 in London) is a British violinist, music teacher and guest conductor and artistic director of numerous Baroque ensembles.

Life

First violin lessons received Monica Huggett already 6 years old. At age 16, she took up the violin studies at the Royal Academy of Music. Already at the beginning of this study, she discovered her affinity with the baroque violin and focused mainly on the study of this instrument. Their important teachers have included Manoug Parikian (1920-1987), Sigiswald Kuijken and Kato Havas.

Monica Huggett played in the 1970s with the ensemble The English Concert under Trevor Pinnock and the Academy of Ancient Music under Christopher Hogwood. In 1980 she founded with Ton Koopman, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, where she served until 1987 as concertmaster. As a soloist she performed with many other orchestras who have devoted themselves to historical performance practice, eg the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Also in numerous performances and recordings with her ensemble Sonnerie Trio Sonnerie or the ensemble as well as the "House Music London " Monica Huggett is to meet regularly.

She taught baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and at the University of the Arts Bremen. From autumn 2008 Monica Huggett was appointed artistic director of the " Juilliard Historical Performance Program " at the Juilliard School in New York. To this faculty also includes other well-known artists such as Jordi Savall and William Christie.
