Monica Zetterlund

Monica Zetterlund ( pronunciation: [ ˌ mo ː ː nika sɛt əɹlɵnd ], born September 20, 1937 in Hagfors, † 12 May 2005 Stockholm, born Monica Nilsson ) was a Swedish singer and actress.

Life and work

Zetterlund starred in more than 20 films and television series, including 1971 in The Emigrants on the side of Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow. She was also a noted jazz singer. With the title En gång i Stockholm took in 1963 for Sweden at the Euro Vision Song Contest. Without a single point she ended up in last place. However, their popularity in their home country did no harm.

As a jazz vocalist she had with Arne Domnerus 1958-1960 its first success after she debuts as a young singer in the band of her parents and Ib Glindemann. Festivals all over Europe led them there, along with the gas- animal border " Americans in Europe" Lucky Thompson, Kenny Clarke, Thad Jones, Zoot Sims, and Red Mitchell. With many she went into the studio. Her discography is quite modest when it comes to jazz, but rich in content. Her best-known album is the LP on Philips with Bill Evans, Waltz for Debby whose interpreted it in a completely new way.

With Quincy Jones has some excellent albums recorded - in various formations. Their LP "Swedish Sensation" brings together the best jazz musicians in Sweden. At the beginning of the 1970s it became more commercial and took between Winchester Cathedral and My Sweet Lord lots of pop on. Your " class " flashed on it only rarely. For this purpose, the number of Swedish folk and Poptitel was getting bigger, which earned her money, the jazz fans but rather deterred. Only the cooperation with Zoot Sims and Red Mitchell led her back into the clubs from Stockholm, Malmö and Uppsala.

As a result of severe scoliosis disease withdrew Monica Zetterlund in 1999 by the stage. On 12 May 2005 she died in a fire in their Stockholm apartment killed. In 2006 she received posthumously the Django d' Or ( Sweden ) as a legend of jazz.
