Monismanien Prize

With the Monismania price personalities and institutions are excellent, committed to the right of uncensored freedom of expression.

History

The prize is awarded by the University of Uppsala since 1975. It was founded by Swedish film director Kenne Fant. In his film Monismania 1995 one-party state and the effect of suppression of any freedom of expression is described. The award recognizes the journalist Torgny Segerstedt, the early rise of the Nazis in Germany commented in the 1930s, warned of the dangers of trivialization of their policies and documented the crimes committed during the war.

Award winners

The first winner was 1975, the Swedish section of Amnesty International. After the Monismania price received, inter alia, Alva Myrdal (1976 ), Simone Veil (1977 ), Charter 77 (1978 ), the International PEN Club (1979 ), Lech Walesa (1981 ), Günter Wallraff (1984 ), André Brink (1989) Taslima Nasrin (1995 ), Yaşar Kemal (1997), Desmond Tutu (1999) and Herta Müller ( 2011).
