Monmouth County, New Jersey

Monmouth County is a county located in the U.S. state of New Jersey. In the 2000 census, the county had 615 301 inhabitants and a population density of 503 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Freehold.

History

Monmouth County was founded in 1683 as a part of the territory of East Jersey.

Historical buildings

In Red Bank is the historic Timothy Thomas Fortune House. The house was the residence of the born as a slave journalists Timothy Thomas Fortune and is at number 94 on West Bergen Place. The building was added on 8 December 1976 by the National Register of Historic Places under the number 76001171 as an historical monument. In addition, there was an entry in the National Historic Landmark.

Geography

The county has an area of 1,723 square kilometers, of which 500 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Ocean County, Burlington County, Mercer County and Middlesex County.

According to the census of 2000, there were 615 301 people in the county. There were 224 236 households and 160 328 families. The population density was 503 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.39 % White, 8.06 % African American, 0.14 % Native American, 3.97 % Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.74 % from other races groups; 1.68% were descended from two or more races. 6.20 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 224 236 households out of which 35.50 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.20 % were married couples living together, 10.00 % had a female householder with no husband. 28.50 % were non-families. 23.80% of all households and 9.60% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.24 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 26.10 % under the age of 18, 6.90 % from 18 to 24, 30.40% from 25 to 44 years, 24.10 % between 45 and 64 years and 12.50% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 94.40 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.90 males.

The median income for a household was $ 64,271, and the median income for a family was $ 76,823. Males have a median income of $ 55,030, women $ 35,415. The per capita income was $ 31,149. 6.30 % of the population and 4.50% of families are below the poverty line. 7.50 % of those under age 18 and 7.00% were 65 years or older.
