Monroe County (Alabama)

Geography

History

Monroe County was formed by Governor David Holmes ( Senator ) from the Mississippi Territory on 29 June 1815. It was named after President James Monroe. The first county seat was Fort Clairborne, 1832 was then Monroeville.
