Monroe County (Indiana)

The Monroe County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bloomington.

Geography

The County is located in south-central Indiana and has an area of 1065 square kilometers, of which 44 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Morgan County, Brown County, Jackson County, Lawrence County, Greene County and Owen County.

History

Monroe County was formed on January 14, 1818 from parts of Orange County. It was named after the reigning at this time, U.S. President James Monroe.
