Monroe County (Pennsylvania)

Monroe County is a county located in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States. In 2007, the County had, according to official estimates 164 722 inhabitants and a population density of 105 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Stroudsburg.

History

Monroe County was formed on April 1, 1836 from Northampton County and Pike County and named after U.S. President James Monroe.

Geography

The county has an area of 1599 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water surface.
