The Monroe Moccasins were established in 1997 as a franchise of the Western Professional Hockey League. Your first season, the 1997/98 season, they shut on the sixth and last place thus the WPHL East Division. In the following season they improved to third place in their division and reached for the first time the playoffs for the President's Cup, in which they claimed a victory over the Arkansas GlacierCats in the second round to eventual champion Shreveport Mudbugs in the best- of- Three series were subject to a sweep. A year later failed Monroe in the first playoff round to the Arkansas GlacierCats.

When the WPHL was disbanded following the 2000/ 01 season, were the Monroe Moccasins is one of only four teams that did not change in the Central Hockey League, but was released instead. However, the main reason for this step was not the end of the WPHL, but the steadily falling average attendance and the associated financial losses for the owners of the franchises.
