Monroe is a city that is located in the central Ostbutler County and in the Central West Warren County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. At the 2000 census, the city population rose to 7,133, from 4,008 in 1990. Monroe was named after James Monroe, the U.S. president, who was sworn in to office at the same time the city was founded (1817 ).

According to the census of 2000, there were 7133 residents in 2685 households and 2040 families in the community. The population density was 177.6 per km2. The average household size was 2.52 persons and the average family size is 2.91.

At the age distribution of 22.8 % of the population were under 18, 6.5 % from 18 to 24 years old, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 22.6% between 45 and 64 and 19 % were older than 65 years old.

For every 100 females inhabitants over 18 years were 88.3 male inhabitants.

Tourism

The King of Kings statue, also known as the " Touchdown Jesus ," is a 19 meter high statue on Interstate 75 near Monroe. The statue shows Jesus with his arms raised. The cost for the construction of the statue were approximately $ 250,000. The statue was designed by Brad Coriel and built by James Lynch in 2004, at the entrance to Solid Rock Church, a ca, 3000 -member congregation in Monroe. Comedian Heywood Banks wrote a song about the statue. The statue was struck by lightning on June 14, 2010, and was completely burned down.
