Mont- la -Ville is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Mont- la- Ville is located at 835 m above sea level. M., 17 km north-west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The scattered village extends on the southeast slope of the Jura, a scenic location high above the level of the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​19.8 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Jura. The eastern part of the territory occupied by the broad and relatively gently sloping south-eastern slope of the Mollendruz chain. In the low-lying areas is the extensive deforestation of the island Mont- la -Ville, about the forest area of Côte de la Ville Mont. To the west, extends the communal land over the broad crest of the Mollendruz chain ( at Boutavent -Dessus 1'262 m above sea level. M. ) with the pass, Col du Mollendruz. Population

With 349 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Mont- la -Ville is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 96.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 1.5 % and 0.9 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Mont- la -Ville in 1900 amounted to 447 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1970 to 268 persons, a slight increase in population was observed again.

Economy

Mont- la -Ville was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the agriculture in the area of the village and cattle breeding and dairy farming in the higher elevations have an important role in the economic structure of the population. Since the community could live earlier of the rich revenues of Forestry, had until 1983 municipal taxes are collected. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the larger villages of the Vaud Mittelland. Traffic

The municipality is situated on the main road which leads from Cossonay via L' Isle on the Col du Mollendruz in the Vallée de Joux. By Postbus course, which runs from L' Isle to Croy, Mont- la -Ville is connected to the network of public transport.

History

The municipality of Mont- la -Ville was already inhabited in prehistoric times. The Abri Frey moon was during the Paleolithic period, about 10,000 to 5500 years before Christ, some inhabited. Also in the Neolithic and the Bronze Age, this place was used.

The first mention of Mont- la -Ville in 1141 was under the name Monte Villa. The place name is derived from the Latin mons (mountain) and villa (village). During the Middle Ages Mont- la -Ville initially belonged to the lords of La Sarraz, then to Les Clées. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Mont- la -Ville came under the administration of Kastlanei Les Clées in the Bailiwick of Yverdon. It formed an exclave of the Bailiwick of Yverdon, far away from their home territory. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Cossonay.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Michel was built in 1825. In the old village some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
