The Mont Oave is also the highest mountain on the island Ua Pou and the highest elevation of the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. The Marquesas for many characteristic needle- shaped elevation of basalt located in the center of the island and reaches a height of 1232 meters above the sea. The mountain is of volcanic origin and belongs to the " Marquesas linear volcanic chain" that has formed from a hot spot on the Pacific plate and at a speed of 103 - 118 mm per year is moving towards the west -northwest.
