Mont Pilat ( German " Pilatus Mountain" ) is the name of a massif in the French Loire on the eastern edge of the Massif Central. It is located east of Saint- Étienne and is bounded to the northwest by greed and in the east of the Rhone. It covers about 700 km ², its highest point is 1432 meters, the Cret de la Perdrix.

The Mont Pilat has a very rich flora, which is mainly due to the fact that in its west continental mountain climate of the Massif Central prevails, as the climate on the Rhône Valley gets back Mediterranean character.

At the Cret de la Perdrix the remains of one of France's oldest ski tows are (built around 1929). On the 1362 meter high Cret de l' Oeillon is a French television transmission tower. At the Col de la République, on the since 1832 the N82 opens the Mont Pilat, lived in the time of the French Revolution, a Christian sect which was later resolved by force.

In 1974, the Regional Natural Park of Pilat (French Parc naturel regional du Pilat ) was founded.
