Mont-roig del Camp

Mont- Roig del Camp is a Catalan city in the province of Tarragona, in northeastern Spain. It is located in the comarca of Baix Camp.

Culture and sights

In Mont- Roig del Camp, there are two churches, both dedicated to San Miguel Arcángel. The older of the two is no longer used as a church, but is now used as a cultural center (Centre Miró ). The newer church dates from the 19th century and is known because of its size as the " Cathedral of Baix Camp".

A few kilometers from Montroig is the Ermita de la Mare de Deu de la Roca, one built in the 13th century, no longer as such occupied monastery, from which a fine view of Mont- Roig del Camp, Mont- Roig Bahia and coastal communities opened.

Sons and daughters of the town

The artist Joan Miró (1893-1983) has several years in Mont- Roig del Camp, home of his family, lived there and created a series of artworks. An example is the painting The farm on which he portrayed the yard of his parents. Housed in a former church and named after him Cultural Centre Miró informs visitors about his life.
