Montale

Montale is a town with 10,634 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Pistoia. There is twinned with the Croatian city of Varaždin.

Geography

Montale is in the valley of the Ombrone Pistoiese and extends up into the foothills of the Apennines. The neighboring municipalities are Agliana, Cantagallo (PO ), Montemurlo (PO ), and Pistoia. The site also includes the districts Tobbiana, Fognano and Stazione.

In the capital Motale is Montale Alto, here is a pistoiesische fortress was situated on a hill that dominates the surrounding landscape.

History

The first settlement center was built in the 13th century this fortress. During the clashes between the cities of Pistoia and Florence, she was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, occupied and razed in 1303 by Florentine Trupenn.
