Montalto Uffugo

Montalto Uffugo is a place in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria area of ​​Italy with 1641 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Montalto Uffugo located 30 km northwest of Cosenza. The city is located on a hill on the west bank of the river Crati. The inhabitants live by trade, agriculture and tourism.

The neighboring municipalities are Fuscaldo Lattarico, Luzzi, Paola, Rende, Rose, San Benedetto Ullano, San Fili and San Vincenzo La Costa.

Attractions

The cityscape is dominated by numerous old buildings. The parish church has been remodeled from 1454 and during the Baroque period. Inside the parish church there is an altar and wooden sculptures from the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside the church of S. Francesco da Paola is a baroque Mausoleum. The church of S. Chiara has a portal from the 15th century.

Others

Every year on Good Friday there will be a procession. Specialties of the city are the Pastilli ( getrockenete chestnuts).

International recognition received by the relationship to the composer Ruggero Leoncavallo the place, who as a child witnessed here a murder case that inspired him 30 years later for the opera Pagliacci.
