Montan

Montan (Italian Montagna ) is a municipality with 1644 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the south of South Tyrol in Italy, about 15 km south of Bolzano. The name comes from the Latin mons Montan ( mountain). The delightful steep slopes and surroundings - overlooking the lowlands, Lake Caldaro and the opposite Mendelkamm - brought the place that has some old mansions, and tourism.

Geography

The community Montan, a total of 18.91 km ², extends along the eastern side of the valley of the Bassa country, such as the section of the Adige Valley between Bolzano and the Salurn is called. Their main settlement areas are located on a broad hillside terrace that the two factions Pinzon ( 390-430 m) and Glen ( 520-580 m), the main town Montan ( 390-530 m asl ) and a little south of that place. To the west lie before the main town rises the hill of Castel spring ( 405 m) between Neumarkt and Auer into the Adige Valley. The community takes Montan below the hill also a small area of the valley floor up to the Adige.

East of the main town the land rises to Cislon at (1563 m), a mountain ridge of the counted to the Val di Fiemme Alps wooded mountain range that separates the Lowlands from the Fiemme Valley and is set in large part in the Monte Corno Nature Park under protection. In the north- east and south of the township narrow strip of territory to ensure that two other fractions belong to mining: In the northeast, the municipality between Aldein and Truden reached another part of the village Kaltbrunn (970-1000 m); in the south crosses a strip of territory the Trudner Bach and busy - to Truden, Neumarkt, and Salurn Capriana in Trentino bordering - the north-western slopes of Trudner Horn (1781 m ), where the small town Gschnon is ( 930-960 m).

Attractions

  • Castelfeder is a prehistoric and Roman settlement on a strategically important porphyry hill near Montan (South Tyrol ) above Auer and provides a multi- structured spacious dome represents the " upper castle " rises some 190 m above the valley floor and is located at 405 meters above sea level.

  • At the cemetery, the burial place of the designated as " gravediggers of South Tyrol" in South Tyrol Italian nationalists Ettore Tolomei ( 1865-1952 ). Tolomei had acquired in 1905 the Thalerhofstraße Glen (part of Montan ) and 1906 related. With the start of World War I in 1914 left Tolomei Montan and settled in Rome, to campaign for the annexation of South Tyrol and Tyrol Welsch to the Brenner border to Italy and plan.   • In mining, there is a radio relay system of the RAI. It involves four large radio antennas that are mounted on a steel grid construction. Additional facilities include mobile radio antennas of the Italian mobile network operator TIM to this construction. The radio system is visible outside of mining still from a distance.

Hiking

Mining is a good starting point for hikes. Most trails are well marked, but it should not be missing a way for steeper hiking map. Above the village there is a disused railway tunnel in the walk- Fleimstalbahn, and lies beyond the mountain chain Monte Corno Nature Reserve.

The council consists of 15 members and has been working for the municipal elections in 2010, mandates the following parties together:
