Montara oil spill
The production platform was a Montara oil rig east of Ashmore and Cartier Islands in the Timor Sea northwest of Australia, which was operated by the company PTTEP Australasia, a subsidiary of PTTEP. After a fire flowed from August 21, 2009 on a 10-week period about 4000 tons of crude oil into the sea, the oil spill reached an area of 25,000 square kilometers. On the oil slick sprayed chemicals formed with the oil a poison mixture so that the ecosystem will be affected there for a long time.
