Montbard

Montbard is a commune with 5476 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Côte- d'Or in the Burgundy region; it is the administrative center for the district of Montbard and the canton Montbard. The city is located northwest of Dijon at the river Brenne and the Canal de Bourgogne. It is connected via a TGV station on the Paris- Lyon. The journey time to Paris is one hour.

History

In Montbard was Aleth 1070, the mother of Bernard of Clairvaux born. 1231 the settlement Montbard to the city was charged. The castle held the Dukes of Burgundy from the house frequently. 1590 Montbard was besieged by the Count of Tavannes in his battle against the Duke of Nemours.

1833 Burgundy Canal was opened. 1926 Montbard was sub-prefecture by decree Raymond Poincaré.
