Montboillon

Montboillon is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Montboillon situated at an altitude of 235 m above sea level, about 17 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the south of the department, to the north of the Valley of the Ognon in a basin at the confluence of the Ruisseau de Vau Venise and the Ruisseau de Pourcevie, at the eastern foot of the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​8.43 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of the south and Ognon Saône in the northwest. The eastern part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 250 m and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. It is divided by the valley of the village of Bach's Montboillon. To the east it descends to the valley of the Ruisseau de la Douain (right tributary of the Ognon ) from.

The western part of the municipality is much stronger in relief. Here are the heights of the Monts de Gy, which are covered by extensive forests ( in the municipal area of ​​the Grands Bois de Montboillon ). In these plateaus the valleys of the Ruisseau de Vau Venise and the Ruisseau de Pourcevie are sunk. With 372 m is reached the highest elevation of Montboillon in the Grands Bois de Montboillon. History

Remains of a Roman road traffic have an early inspection and possibly colonization of the municipality towards. In the Middle Ages Montboillon belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. It formed its own little rule that was in 1608 raised to the barony. Together with the Franche -Comté Montboillon came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Until his death at the guillotine in 1793 Montboillon was owned by Louis Marie Florent de Lomont d' Haraucourt, duc du Châtelet.Heute Montboillon is a member of the 28 villages of comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Attractions

The village church of Montboillon was rebuilt in the 19th century. In the village are houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. The Fontaine- Lavoir, which formerly served as well, wash and livestock watering, was built in 1838. Its roof is supported by pillars in the Doric style. From the former seat of power, the ruins are still visible.

Population

With 263 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Montboillon one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 221 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again. Economy and infrastructure
