Montbrison (Loire)

Montbrison is a commune with 15,324 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Loire department in the Rhône -Alpes; it is the administrative seat of the arrondissement and canton of Montbrison Montbrison.

Geography

Montbrison lies on the border to the plain of Forez, at the foot of the Monts du Forez, 30 km from Saint- Étienne.

History

The first mention of the town dates from the year 870 under the Count of Forez Montbrison became the capital. During the Hundred Years' War, the town was secured. Under King Francis I Montbrison came to the crown.

From Montbrison after Montrond- les- Bains ran from 1839 to 1848 the first time drawn nor by horses, tram Europe (→ tram Montbrison- Montrond ).
