Montcalm County, Michigan

Montcalm County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Stanton.

Geography

The County is located about south-west of the geographic center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is in the west about 70 km from Lake Michigan, one of the five great lakes, distance and has an area of ​​1967 square kilometers, of which 34 square kilometers are water surface. History

Montcalm County was formed in 1831 from parts of Mackinac County and free territory. It was named after Louis -Joseph de Montcalm, a commander of the French army in Canada during the French and Indian War or the Seven Years ' War (1756-1763 ).
