Montcel (Savoie)

Montcel is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Montcel is located on 596 m above sea level. M., about 19 km north of the town of Chambery (air line). The farming village in the foothills of the Alps extends a scenic location at the bottom of the northwest slope of Mont Revard ( part of the massif of the Wallows ), above the valley of Sierre.

The area of 15:23 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Alpine foothills. The area is bounded on the east and north of the Sierre. These springs on the plateau of Mont Revard and initially flows northward in a V-shaped valley that is cut into the hillside. Below Montcel it turns west and leads her water the Lac du Bourget. The western boundary forms a parallel to the upper reaches of the Sierre flowing side stream. From the valley of Sierre, the municipality's area extends southward over the gently sloping hillside of Montcel to the headland of La Chapelle. This is followed by an ever more steeply and dense forested slopes of the edge chain of the Massif of bauges connects. On the crest of the Tour de l' Est Angle is with 1563 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Montcel. South of the source area of the Sierre and the plateau of Mont Revard is ( 1360 m above sea level. M. ).

Neighboring communities of Montcel are Épersy and Saint- Offenge lingerie in the north, Saint- Offenge -Dessus in the east, Les Deserts and Pugny - Chatenod in the south and Trévignin and Grésy -sur -Aix in the West.

History

Is first mentioned in the 14th century as Montcel Ecclesia de Moncello. The place name is (Latin monticulus ) in the importance of small mountain back to the Old French word Moncel. In the Middle Ages Montcel was owned by the lords of Clermont.

Attractions

The village church of Montcel was built in the 19th century. A chapel stands in the village of La Chapelle.

Population

With 876 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Montcel is one of the small communities of the department of Savoie. After the population declined in the 20th century, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1980s thanks to the beautiful residential area again.

Economy and infrastructure

Montcel was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses. Meanwhile, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area as well as in space Chambéry and Annecy their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from the department of road D911 which leads from Grésy -sur -Aix after Cusy. Further road links exist with Saint- Offenge -Dessus, Trevignin and the high plateau of Mont Revard. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of about 8 km.
