Monte Kaolino

The Monte Kaolino is a dump in the city of Hirschau in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria, about two kilometers southeast of the city center. The stockpile is largely in the district Hirschau, eastward to some extent in the district Scharhof. It rises 120 meters out from the environment and consists of around 35 million tonnes of kaolin-containing quartz sand.

Formation

The Monte Kaolino was formed by the piling of kaolin- quartz sand, which is a waste product of the Kaolinabbaus in space Hirschau. In the extraction of kaolin which is eliminated from the sand - clay mixture. Part of the remaining sand is of glass and used for the construction industry. A large part is deposited but still unused. Thus arose the Monte Kaolino, in the lateral extent continues to grow still today, because over long distances continue conveyor belt sand is deposited on the northern slope of the heap.

Geotop

The Monte Kaolino at Hirschau is recognized by the Bavarian State Office for Environment as Geotop 371G004. The Kaolingruben at Hirschau - Schnaittenbach have been designated as Geotop 371A022 and awarded the official seal of approval "Bavaria's most beautiful geotopes ". Amusement Park

On the south side of the city Hirschau established already in the 1950s a recreational area. In 2007, the recreational area was completely renewed.

Outdoor pool

Built in 1959 old pool was demolished in 2007 and replaced by a new one. The new, so-called Dünenbad includes a 50 -foot water slide, a 70 -square-foot children's pool and an adventure pool with bubbler and flow nozzles. In addition, a new swimming pool with 25 m and jump area was built.

Sandskistrecke

The sandy slope is also suitable for skiing and has a funicular railway, the so-called Monte - Kaolino train. Every year there are international championships in sand skiing and sand boarding driving on the 260 m long and about 35 degrees steep downhill. Climbers can climb to the summit and enjoy the view. However, the climbing is very difficult, since the sand gives way at every step.

High ropes course

The visitor of the forest high ropes course are five courses available. Depending on the difficulty the heights of the course of about four meters move to forty feet.

Liner route

2008 in the northern part of Mount Kaolino a liner route was completed. This is usable depending on the season with roller skis, inline skating, cross-country skis or on foot.

Summer toboggan run

On September 27, 2008, an Alpine -Coaster- distance of almost 1000 meters was put into operation. This overcomes a height difference of 120 m at about 33 degrees inclination. The train is equipped with 42 rail- Coasterschlitten. Operator of the so-called Monte Coasters is the SC Monte Kaolino Hirschau.

Geopark

The " Geopark Kaolinrevier Hirschau - Schnaittenbach " is characterized as a Geopark by the fact that there is still a constant change in the industry landscape in progress and this process can be well comprehended at the 12 stations of the park. With the Geopark accents that reveal the importance of the use of raw materials for the room even after the termination of the mining activity.

Camping

Also with a term already in the 1950s campsite was increased significantly in 2007. Also camping is possible.

Forest colors

The colors of the forest is the meditative field of recreational facilities at Monte Kaolino. In a birch forest on the plateau of a former slag heap, the trail has been created, which is accessed via a staircase from the leisure sector. Along the loop road ten large color stelae were erected, with colored COLORITQUARTZ - coated - a by-product of Kaolinabbaus.

1210 Club

Until the closure on 31 December 2005 was at the foot of Monte Kaolino a club called Club 1210.
