Monte San Salvatore funicular

The San Salvatore station (MS ) (Italian Funicular Monte San Salvatore ) is located in the Swiss canton of Ticino meterspurige funicular from Lugano and leads up to Monte San Salvatore.

The base station is located in the suburb of Lugano Paradiso at 282 m above sea level. M. and increases with a maximum slope of 61 percent in 12 minutes up to the summit. After 1629 meters you reach the mountain station at 883 m above sea level. M.

The plant was built in two separate sections, each with a cart: Passengers must therefore change to the intermediate station Pazzallo. Here are also the drives for both track sections.

The San Salvatore station is annually from mid-March to mid-November with a half hour in operation.

History

The San Salvatore railway was constructed by the company Bucher -Durrer (Franz Josef Bucher and Josef Durrer ). Construction began on 12 June 1888, the inauguration took place on 27 March 1890.

1926, the traction system was rebuilt and taken the second generation of rolling stock in operation. Further restoration was done in 1957 (third generation car ) and 2001 (total renovation of facilities including driving, fourth generation cars with panoramic roofs ).

Until April 2006, the railway has transported 16 million passengers to the summit of Monte San Salvatore.
