Monteflavio

Monteflavio is a municipality in the province of Rome in the Italian region Latium, located about 1375 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Monteflavio located 50 km northeast of Rome, 47 km south of Rieti, and 32 km north of Tivoli.

It belongs to the Lucretili that have their highest point in the municipality with the Monte Pellecchia ( 1,368 m). Monteflavio is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Sabini e Tiburtini.

The municipality is located in the seismic zone 2 (medium endangered).

The neighboring municipalities are Licenza, Montorio Romano Moricone, Palombara Sabina, San Polo dei Cavalieri, and Scandriglia (RI ).

Traffic

Monteflavio lies south of the Via Salaria SS 4 which leads from Rome over Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast at Porto d' Ascoli. The nearest motorway exit Roma Nord is on the A1 Autostrada del Sole in 31 km distance.

The nearest railway station is located in Passo Corese at the regional railway line FR1 from Rome Fiumicino Airport via Rome Tiburtina to Orte, 24 km away.

History

Monteflavio was founded in 1570 by Cardinal Flavio Orsini and got its name from the combination of Monte ( = mountain ) and his first name.
