Montefortino

Montefortino ( in fermeser dialect: Montefurti ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1195 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Fermo in the Marche. The municipality is situated approximately 39.5 kilometers south-west of Fermo on the edge of Monti Sibillini National Park, part of the Comunità montana dei Sibillini and directly borders the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Macerata.

History

The community was already inhabited in Roman antiquity. The castle was built in the 12th century. Since 1084 the city is an independent municipality.
