Montegiorgio

Montegiorgio ( in the local dialect Muntijorgiu or Muntijorgio ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6972 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Fermo in the Marche. The municipality is situated approximately 15 km west-southwest of Fermo and about 19 ​​km south-southeast of Macerata. Southwest Montegiorgio is limited by the Tenna.

History

Around the year 1000 it is mentioned as Mons Sanctae Marie in Georgio.

Traffic

With the closure of the narrow gauge railway (950 mm) from Porto San Giorgio after Amandola 1958 the railway station of Montegiorgio was closed.
