Montelepre

Montelepre is a city in the province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, with 6341 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Montelepre located 26 kilometers west of Palermo. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Carini, Giardinello and Monreale.

History

In the area remains have been found of settlements dating from the 4th century BC. The present city was founded in the 17th century.

In 1922 here was Salvatore Giuliano, a Sicilian bandit who has long been regarded as a folk hero was born. He is buried in the local cemetery.
