First in a Dokumtent the place in the 12th century it is mentioned as the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta was mentioned by the Diocese of Fiesole. At about the same time, the Castello dei Conti Guidi was born. The Guidi family dominated the first place with Einverständiss of Henry VI. and later by Frederick II ( HRR ). This domination lasted until the mid 14th century, when the population rebelled with the Castel San Niccolò against the Counts Guidi. So Count Galeotto Guidi was in 1359 forced to sign the waiver of his possessions. The place subsequently developed a Podesteria under the Republic of Florence. Later, the town in the province of Arezzo was assigned.
