Montenol

Montenol (French [ mõtnɔl ], in the local dialect [( ɛ ) mɶtno ] ) is a village and a former municipality in the district of the Swiss canton of Jura Porrentruy.

Geography

Montenol is located on 692 m above sea level. M., 9 km south-east of the district municipal seat Porrentruy (air line). The farming village extend to the height of a Jura ridge, which is bordered on three sides by deep Doubs, directly above Saint- Ursanne.

The population of Montenol amounted in 1860 to 103 residents in 1900 to 59 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range between 50 and 80 people.

Economy

History

His first mentioned in 1173 as the village Montenot. The place name is composed of mont, mountain 'and a Germanic personal name, possibly Hunwald / Hunold / Hanolt. Montenol was under the parish of Saint- Ursanne. Between 1793 and 1815 Montenol belonged to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the Canton of Bern. 1865 were numerous houses a village destroyed by fire. On 1 January 1979, the community reached the newly founded Canton Jura; January 1, 2009 she was united with Epauvillers, Epiquerez Montmelon Ocourt, Saint- Ursanne and Seleute the new municipality Clos du Doubs.

Attractions
