Monteprandone

Monteprandone ( in the local dialect: Munneprannù ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 12,399 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche. The municipality borders directly on the Teramo province and is located about 21 kilometers northeast of Ascoli Piceno. To the Adriatic sea are approximately 6 km to the east.

History

According to legend, a fortress was built in the 9th century by a Frankish knight in the wake of Charlemagne. But the place until 1039 is first mentioned.

Through the district Centobuchi the former salt Via Salaria leads from the Adriatic Sea, the former fortified port castrum Truentinum to Rome. Today this is the Strada Statale 4 A small railway station located on the non-electrified railway line from Ascoli Piceno to San Benedetto del Tronto.
