Montes Taurus

The Montes Taurus is a rugged mountain range on Earth's Moon.

The mountains are situated on a high plateau in the east of Mare Serenitatis to the selenographic coordinates 27 ° N and 40 ° E. The mountain has a diameter of about 170 km; some peaks reaching heights of 3,000 m.

In the mountains a series of craters is embedded. In the southwest of the mountain is the crater Romans, in the northeast Newcomb.

Here Luna 21 and Apollo 17 landed

The German astronomer Johannes Hevelius gave the mountain its name from the Taurus Mountains in southern Turkey.
