Montfichet's Tower

The building was located on the western outskirts near Baynard 's Castle and passed into the possession of Gilbert de Monfichet from Rouen, a relative of the king, who had proved himself at the Battle of Hastings. The building was destroyed in 1213 by order of King John Lackland. The materials were used during the construction in 1276 of the Blackfriars Monastery.
